Creating Parent Child Products

Convert a Product into a Parent

To turn a product into a parent follow these steps:

1. Navigate to the product

2. Locate the Option Set portion of the sidebar

3. Click Change

4. Click into the dropdown, search for your option set and click to select it

5. Click Done

Create Children

There are three ways to create child products in the PIM. navigate to to the Children tab on your parent product to begin

Auto-Create Children

If no children are present on the parent, there is an option to automatically create them in a single click. All of the possible permutations will be created via this method for every option value combination. It can be a valuable time saver if properly utilized.

To auto create children:

• Click Children Tab on the parent product

• Click Auto-Create Children Button

Manual Child Creation

If you have large option value lists and do not plan to offer every permutation this method is better for child creation as you can select exactly which option value combinations you use to create new SKUs

To create children manually:

• Click Children Tab on the parent product

• Click Create Child Button

• Click into the dropdown for each option

• Search and select each option

• Click Save Child Product

Use Existing Products (Child Assignment)

If you already have your products organized into a parent/child schema or only have child-like products and wish to begin organizing them into parent child groupings this method is best.

To use an existing product as a child product under a new parent, ensure that all future child products remain unpublished throughout this procedure:

• Click Children Tab on the parent product

• Click Create Child Button

• Click into the dropdown for each option

• Search and select each option

• Click Use Existing Product

• Click into the Existing Product dropdown

• Search for the product by name and select it

• Click Save
