Working with Inventory Locations
Inventory
The PIM is capable of manually managing inventory from multiple locations or accepting data from an external source such as an ERP or standalone inventory management system.
How do Inventory Locations Work?
The inventory locations in the PIM are free entry fields that allow you to organize your inventory records to match your warehouses. Bin and Source function to further refine your inventory records.
For instance, if you carry a product on two shelves in the same warehouse and need to account for the quantities on each shelf you can do so using two bin numbers from the same location. The final total being sent to your channel will account for both shelves.
How do Inventory Locations Work With Multiple Selling Channels?
Each configured channel in the PIM takes its inventory from a single inventory location. This allows you to separate which storefronts use which inventory locations. You can store all of your inventory records in the PIM across all warehouse locations, bins and sources and only send the appropriate inventory records to specific channels using locations.
What If I have one store with multiple locations I want to represent?
Some storefronts like BigCommerce will allow a secondary field for inventory records, typically a Bin or Bin Picking field. By shifting your location to the Bin field and choosing the location as the channel name, you can represent multi-location inventory using a single location field in the PIM.
Does the PIM support click-and-collect?
Yes. The PIM sends up all inventory records for all locations as part of the product JSON object. Depending on the storefront the JSON may be located in a different place. Your developers can use this information to enable click-and-collect functionality.
