Understanding How To Use The Import Exports Tool

Import/ Export Tool

The PIM includes an import export tool for new product creation, customizable exports and round trip bulk editing via CSV files. Due to the nature of mass editing, restrictions are imposed throughout the process to ensure the integrity of your data.

This is an advanced feature of the PIM and requires familiarity with several PIM features and operations. You are advised to read through the prerequisite articles below prior to attempting to use the import export tool.

Prerequisites

Profiles

Jasper’s PIM Importer/Exporter operates using pre-defined profiles or mapping templates that connect a CSV’s column headers to fields in the PIM. In order to import or export data you first need to define the mapping. These profile configurations are stored in JSON format and easily copied to create multiple profiles with slightly different fields. The full list of available core PIM fields for export can be found here: Import Export Fields.

Exports

Exports using a profile will create a UTF-8 encoded CSV file of your entire PIM catalog using the columns outlined in the Profile. Larger profiles can be used to populate data on custom channels. Using the export as a round trip editor is safest when changing only the required data points combined with a key identifier (SKU or ID).

Import

The import portion of the tool can be used for the seeding of product data when creating new products in the PIM or as part of a round-trip bulk edit workflow where you export using a profile, change data and import using the same profile.
