Common Image Publication Issues

Common Image Publication Issues

If you are encountering difficulty with image syncing to your ecommerce platform use these steps to diagnose and resolve the issue.

No Images on category or search result pages

If you see images in the admin section of my ecommerce platform, but category pages, search results and product detail pages do not display an image you likely have not set a thumbnail in the PIM.

Set a thumbnail

The image asset designated as the thumbnail in the PIM will be used for category pages, search results and the main hero image on ecommerce platforms. To set a thumbnail in the PIM:

  1. Drag the intended image to the top of the list

  2. Click Save Asset Order

  3. Click the Gear Icon to the right of the image

  4. Click Set as Thumbnail

Images not syncing

If assets exist in the PIM and you've selected a thumbnail image, but the images fail to sync to the e-commerce platform you may need to edit/resize the images to conform to the platform requirements.

BigCommerce Images

Images must meet the following requirements to successfully upload to the Image Manager. Attempting to upload an image that does not meet these requirements can cause unexpected behaviour.

  • Image file names must be alphanumeric, and cannot contain any spaces or special characters.

  • Supported file types are JPEG/JPG, GIF and PNG.

Shopify Images

The best file type for most product images is JPEG. Product and collection images can be any size up to 4472 x 4472 px, or 20 megapixels. Product and collection images need to have a file size smaller than 20 MB to be added to Shopify.
High resolution photos look more polished and professional to your customers. For square product images, a size of 2048 x 2048 px usually looks best.
