Creating Your PIM

If you are brand new to Jasper PIM and have not created your first PIM, please click to learn how to create your first PIM.

Configuring your PIM

Your new PIM begins life as a blank slate. It can be configured to accept and model nearly any form of product information. Before you begin curating your product catalog you need to run through some configuration to inform the PIM how you would like to represent your product data.

Magento M1 Users

If you are a Magento M1 user, we've built an import tool that will import your product catalog and configuration directly from M1. Please refer to the Magento M1 Installation Guide for information on how to get up and running.

Create your Brands

Whether you sell products from a single brand or multiple brands, Jasper gives you the tools to effectively manage them. Create your brand(s) and add additional information such as a logo and SEO information. Your brands appear as a selectable dropdown from your product edit screen and must be configured ahead of time.

Create your brands from the Brands Menu located under the Configuration section of left hand menu. Add logos, set metadata and an internal description if desired.

Create your Categories

Product taxonomy is a key component to successfully managing your product information. The organizational structure often varies with the intended use case. Brick-and-mortar stores with no e-commerce presence may organize their products differently than those heavily invested into selling online. When e-commerce business scale globally taxonomies often have to adjust to new markets. Jasper PIM provides a flexible and powerful category management toolkit for you to organize your products to suit many applications. Like Brands, Categories must be configured ahead of time and will be assigned to products from the pre-existing list of available Categories.

Jasper PIM uses a system of ROOT level categories to separate products into publishable groupings. Each published channel will pull products and category taxonomy from under a single ROOT category. You can use these different ROOT categories to setup multiple storefronts with different taxonomies all within the same PIM. You can also add HTML formatted descriptions, assets and SEO data to supply your storefronts with rich landing page content.

Create your Attributes

Product attributes are one of the most powerful features of Jasper PIM. Attributes are custom fields to store unique product data. They come in a variety of text and select-box formats as well as date pickers, markdown or JSON. Attributes can be used to power PIM advanced search, website faceted search or display specialized content on product detail pages. Taking the time to explore and configure your product attributes in Jasper PIM is the key to unlocking the full potential of your e-commerce ecosystem.

Attributes in the PIM are organized using two methods: assignable groupings, called Attribute Sets and visual groupings called Display Groups. Use attribute sets to group related attributes together and assign them to products in groups to save valuable time. Use Display Groups to customize the look and flow when working with attributes on the product edit screen. Attributes can exist in multiple Attribute Sets but only a single Display Group.

Create your Channels

Storing and managing your product information in the PIM is only part of the benefits of using Jasper PIM.  Our self-serve Channel Configuration tool gives you the ability to add new BigCommerce, Shopify, or Magento M2 storefronts quickly and easily, without the need of tech support.

To truly power up your PIM, you can use the Channel tool to create, configure, and connect to your storefronts and marketplaces. Serve portions of your product catalog to different websites easily. Set specific price bases to sell the same products in different currencies or at different prices for different sites. Separate your inventory so your storefronts pull from different warehouses. Curate different product content for different sites with Versions.

Create your first product

There are a variety of ways to get your product data into Jasper PIM including API, Import tools and Magento extensions. Before utilizing any of these features we highly suggest you build a few products manually inside the PIM. Creating a product inside the PIM and going through the enrichment process from start to finish will set you up for success in properly managing your whole product catalog with Jasper PIM.

Create your first product by navigating to the products section from the main PIM menu on the left hand side. Click create product and give your product a name. From there you will be taken to the product edit screen. This is the heart of working with Jasper PIM on a daily basis and is broken up into two parts: the sidebar and the working panel.

The Sidebar

The sidebar, located on the right hand side is your product configuration editor. Think of it as mission control for your categories, attributes and options. It is always active and visible allowing on the fly changes to your product's configuration.

The Working Panel

To the left of the sidebar is the Working Panel. Comprised of a series of dropdown menus and tabs, this is where your product data is stored. General information such a description, SKU, SEO data, shipping info and barcodes are stored in under General tab. Attributes, assets, pricing, inventory, channels and related products are all stored in their own discrete tabs.

The Products Menu

The Products Menu from the main PIM menu on the left hand side is your gateway to your entire product catalog. In addition to providing a single access point to your products, you can also search for specific products or groups of products using our advanced search feature.

The Import Export Tool

When you have familiarized yourself with creating products manually in the PIM, you are ready to begin using the Import/Export Tool to create new products and enhance those product listing in bulk and perform large-scale catalog edits when required. It is important to be comfortable with products on a small scale before attempting to use the tool as there are many restrictions in place to ensure the integrity of your product data is maintained.

The Import/Export Tool operates using a series of profiles, or templates, to map CSV data to PIM data and vice versa. You must first define the nature of the mapping in order to perform an import or an export. Create your profile from the available fields and from there choose to import or export your product data. CSV files for import must be encoded in UTF-8 only.

Product Relations

As part of the merchandising suite of tools, Jasper PIM allows you to create product relations in order to associate one or more products together. This simple concept opens the door to a world of merchandising and product modelling opportunities. For example, you can use Product Relations to populate the "Related Products" section of some e-commerce platforms giving you total control over what customers see on your product pages. Alternatively, you can use relations (and the data contained within the related products) to create dynamic product builders on your website and even bundles.

Options and Parent Child Products

Depending on the types of products you sell, it can make sense to group them using a parent child relationship. Different e-commerce platforms call these relationships by different names, including product/variant configurable/simple or options/SKUs. Whatever the name, Jasper PIM offers you the ability to optimize your customers' shopping experience by using Options to create Parent Child products.

Parent products use a pivotable "Option" to generate and maintain a structured relationship to Child products. Child products inherit information from the parent product but are capable of being fully merchandised on their own. Jasper PIM uses a globally defined Option and Option Set, to store and ultimately generate Parent Child products.
